Course Objective

“Develop professionalism exhibited in such qualities as self-direction,

cooperation, civility, reliability, and care in editing and presenting the final

product. To achieve this outcome students will practice the usefulness

(and necessity) of collaboration in workplace teams on various projects

throughout the semester.”

I chose the above objective because it reflects my goals in pursuing a career as a financial analyst. Professionalism requires self-directed work, cooperation, civility, reliability, and editing skills. The objective also emphasizes the importance of presenting work correctly, which is important since an analyst must prepare reports, charts, and presentations that accurately present financial information.

Self-direction is particularly important to me because I want to be able to handle my responsibilities independently as a financial analyst. The assignment planning and management skills I developed during this course are necessary in order to accomplish various tasks and ensure timely delivery of results. Working independently has helped me learn how to plan and organize my activities so that I can accomplish all my objectives efficiently and effectively.

Although cooperation and teamwork are emphasized in the chosen objective, I did not participate in group activities during the course. Nevertheless, I have learned the importance of maintaining proper relations with colleagues, instructors, and clients. Civility and politeness are essential since they create a favorable working atmosphere. For instance, I always respond to comments provided by professors politely and try to avoid rudeness when discussing controversial issues.

Reliability is another important characteristic that I am striving to acquire. People working in financial departments rely on specialists who analyze data, develop strategies, and provide recommendations. I have always tried to deliver work in accordance with deadlines and requirements in order to improve my reputation. I want to become a reliable analyst and deliver quality reports, recommendations, and analyses on time.

The last requirement listed in the objective is paying attention to details. Financial analysts must be responsible and accurate since errors can lead to significant losses. I have been learning how to carefully analyze data, check formulas, and format texts and tables in order to make them more legible and comprehensible. I will keep working on my editing skills after I finish my studies.

Teamwork was not emphasized in our assignments but I am sure that I will encounter situations where I will have to cooperate with others during my career. My desire is to develop teamwork skills in the future while participating in group projects in my college and university classes.

When I finish this course, I want to be able to work independently, meet all my responsibilities, and deliver work of high quality. Professionalism will help me become a successful analyst and impress employers, investors, and stakeholders with the results obtained by my company.
